2024 Expected to Be Warmest Year Ever Recorded

(AmericanProsperity.com) – A new report done by Copernicus, the European Union’s Climate Change Service, said that 2024 will most likely end up being the warmest year on record.

In July, we experienced the second warmest month ever recorded globally, and it ended a thirteen month cycle of record breaking temperatures in a row.

Temperatures have been dropping as expected as a result of the end of El Niño and beginning of El Nina. Despite the lowering temperatures, on average they are rising, and climate change is being labeled the main cause.

Samantha Burgess, deputy director of Copernicus, said, “The overall context hasn’t changed, our climate continues to warm. The devastating effects of climate change started well before 2023 and will continue until global greenhouse gas emissions reach net zero.”

According to the organization’s ERA5 dataset, the temperatures have gotten higher every month, and in order for it not to be the warmest year on record, the temperatures for the remaining months of the year would need to drop significantly. Experts don’t think that’s going to happen which leads them to predict that 2024 will be the warmest year on record.

The last time that Earth had a cooler-than-average year was in the seventies, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organization.

The average temperatures from August 2023 to July 2024 were almost 3ºF above the temperature recorded in pre-industrial times. The Paris Agreement states the goal is to limit the warming temperature to 1.3ºC higher than pre-industrial times.

When looking at sea surface temperature, these temperatures were much higher than previously recorded as well.
