This US State Has 4 of the Top 20 Violent Cities, According to Report
(AmericanProsperity.com) – In a recent press release, the FBI announced that it has compiled crime statistics data from 2021. According to MLive, a news outlet that reviewed data from the agency’s Crime Data Explorer database, four of the nation’s most violent cities are all located within the same state: Michigan.
Today, the #FBI released statistics on over 11 million criminal offenses that were reported to the Uniform Crime Reporting Program’s National Incident-Based Reporting System last year. Learn more about this snapshot of crime in the U.S. in 2021 at https://t.co/D1rLig2CRJ.

According to MLive’s report, Saginaw led the pack as the most violent region in the state and the fourth most violent in the US. Detroit, Kalamazoo, and Lansing also scored high, ranking as the fifth, 10th, and 17th most violent locations in the US, respectively.
Notably, Michigan’s homicide rate actually declined by approximately 6.3%. But the number of violent crimes involving a victim who did not die rose by 4.7% instead.
The FBI reportedly landed on these numbers after reviewing per capita data from 852 municipalities with more than 30,000 residents.
A greater number of crimes took place in Detroit compared to Saginaw. But Saginaw’s crime rate actually ranked higher, mostly because a higher percentage of its population broke the law within the same time period. That means Saginaw ultimately experienced more incidents of violence per capita than Detroit.
While one might expect major metropolises such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago to make the FBI’s list of violent places first, recent data seems to suggest that assumption may be inaccurate. None of these cities appeared in the data, nor did they submit their own records to the FBI, rendering the results incomplete.
Questions remain about whether the FBI’s rankings might change if the agency pushed to include data from NYC, LA, and Chicago. More importantly, would Michigan still take the prize for having the four most violent cities in the US?
