580,000 Coffee Mugs Recalled After They Burst With Hot Liquid In Them

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Over five hundred thousand coffee mugs have been recalled across the United States after many consumers have reported burns and lacerations from using them. A notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled the JoyJolt Declan Single Wall Glass Coffee Mug because it can break and crack when filled with hot liquid, such as coffee.

There have been over one hundred instances of these glasses breaking at the base, which has resulted in over fifty injuries. Thirty of those reports were burns from hot liquid in the cup and twenty of the injuries were cuts or lacerations from the broken glass from the mug. Seven of these injuries did result in a hospital visit where the patient needed to get stitches or have surgery.

The coffee cups are sixteen ounces and they were distributed by New York-based MM Products Inc. They were sold online through their JoyJolt website and on Amazon in a set of six for about twenty dollars. According to reports, the recalled glasses have model number JG10242 and the number can be found on the side of the product’s packaging or the order confirmation.

Consumers who are in possession of the mugs should discontinue use of them and contact MM Products for a full refund. Registration is available on JoyJolt’s recall page online for consumers as well. The company stated on its website that it issued a voluntary recall because “your safety is our top priority.” It added that it appreciated the impacted customers’ understanding and cooperation.
