(AmericanProsperity.com) – In a heartwarming rescue, a Massachusetts community rallied to save a helpless blind cat from certain death.
The daring rescue of 20-year-old Tiki from an icy pond showcases the power of neighbors coming together to save a life.
Tiki is a blind cat who found himself stranded on a fragile ice floe in Nabnasset Pond, Westford, Massachusetts.
Dawn Felicani, a vigilant community member, spotted the old cat and immediately raised the alarm.
“I was in the house for one minute and I looked out the slider and I was like what is that out on the water?” Felicani recalled.
Two citizens, Kris and Nate, refused to wait for animal control. Instead, they took swift action.
“We commandeered the neighbor’s boat and took a shovel and paddled out to it,” said Nate.
The rescue was fraught with danger. The ice beneath Tiki began to crack, threatening to plunge the helpless animal into the freezing waters.
Felicani described the heart-stopping moment: “The crackling happened, and I was like, hysterical, And all of a sudden, it fell in! Its little head was sticking out! I’m in tears, and I’m freaking out.”
Despite the risks, these everyday heroes’ efforts paid off when Nate successfully retrieved Tiki from the icy waters.
The cat was in shock, and his body temperature was so low it could not even register on a thermometer.
However, thanks to these community members’ quick thinking and selfless actions, Tiki was given a second chance at life. Westford Animal Control hailed the rescue as “nothing short of a miracle.”
Tiki’s owner, John Arden, reported that the resilient cat is now doing well, behaving as if nothing happened. “He’s pretty annoyed that he can’t go back outside,” Arden said.
