(AmericanProsperity.com) – Abortion has been a hot topic, and it’s now been left up to the state governments after the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Because of this, abortion questions will now appear on the ballots of ten different states this year to leave the decision up to the voters.
Nine states have proposals on the ballot for this election that specifically mention abortion. An initiative in Arizona would amend the state constitution and establish a fundamental right to abortion. It would also protect abortion after fetal viability, if an abortion is needed to protect the life or mental health of the patient. It would also protect people from being penalized if they assist another person in getting an abortion.
Colorado, if approved, would add a right to abortion and would prohibit the government from denying, impeding, or discriminating against that right. It would also prevent health insurance from denying coverage for abortion.
An initiative in Florida would outlaw any legislation that penalizes, prohibits, restricts, or delays abortion care before viability or if it’s necessary to protect the mom’s health. However, it would still require parental notification for minors who get abortions.
Missouri’s legislation would not allow the government to infringe on anyone’s right to reproductive freedom which includes abortion, birth control, prenatal care, childbirth, miscarriage, and postpartum care.
Montana is looking to establish protective measures for a woman’s right to make decisions regarding their pregnancy and carry out those decisions. For New York, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, reproductive healthcare, and other decisions would have anti-discriminatory protections.
Nebraska’s legislation would prohibit state interference until fetal viability and in cases where there is a likelihood that the fetus would likely survive outside the womb or if the mother is in danger. The question in South Carolina would establish a constitutional right to an abortion, but it would allow some restrictions in terms of the stage of the pregnancy. In the third trimester, the state would be able to regulate abortions except when a medical physician finds an abortion necessary.
