Amount of Hikers Visiting United States National Parks is Increasing

(AmericanProsperity.com) – National parks across the United States are seeing more visitors than ever before, leading to an increased need for safety.

Scott Collard, a teen on a church youth group trip, climbed up the Half Dome in California’s Yosemite National Park where you can see the Yosemite Valley.

Collard said, “I remember sitting on the edge of the lip of Half Dome with my buddy and just gazing over the edge. And when he got off, he kind of nudged me, and I darn near fell off the thing just because we were so nonchalant about it.”

Climbing the Half Dome has been a huge attraction for visitors, especially after the National Park Service implemented a lottery system that would limit the number of hikers allowed.

Since the limits were imposed, the number of permits have gone from seventeen thousand to thirty-five thousand. Overall, the national parks saw over three hundred million visitors last year.

Grace Rohloff, a twenty year old woman, was descending the cables with her father when she died on their way down. This has led to a demand for increased safety measures like extra wooden slats to help people navigate the granite.

Some people have felt like there doesn’t need to be any extra safety precautions and that people should be prepared for all types of risks to take place especially at a national park like this.

Some people have said that they don’t want the parks to drill anymore into the mountain because they don’t want to ruin nature, but they have said that better safety measures would be beneficial.
