(AmericanProsperity.com) – US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has a history of making absurd claims. Her latest statement came during a congressional hearing in which she declared there was a link between the extraction of fossil fuel and the violence committed against indigenous women.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, better known by her initials AOC, spoke about the crisis the United States is facing regarding missing or murdered minority women, namely Native American and black women. AOC declared she wanted to discuss a contributing factor to the issue she says is overlooked too often: the correlation between fossil fuel extraction and violence against these groups.
The congresswoman expressed how the lawmakers were lucky to have the Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native American Women, Angel Charley, join their hearing to speak about the crisis. AOC then asked Ms. Charley to explain how fossil fuel extraction sites are connected to missing indigenous women.
Charley claimed oil companies set up man camps in remote areas often close to Native American reservations. She added many tribes don’t have jurisdiction over people who aren’t tribe members — in this case, oil company workers — allowing for the employees to essentially do whatever they want without the fear of repercussions.
While it’s true that oil and gas companies do set up man camps in remote areas, they’re not the only industry to do so. Naming fossil fuel extractors as oppressors helps the Left advance their agenda.
