(AmericanProsperity.com) – New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday after he defended Marine Veteran Daniel Penny. The radical leftist told reporters that DeSantis should go home and “Read a Bible,” for defending a man like Penny. The 24-year-old Marine veteran was charged with manslaughter on May 1st, in connection with the chokehold death of Jordan Neely on a New York City train.
As reported by the New York Times, Neely was a 30-year-old homeless man that the New York Police Department (NYPD) said was being hostile and erratic on an F train. Different videos showed Neely acting violently, resulting in the Marine veteran and two other individuals restraining him. However, Penny choked Neely for several minutes, causing his death. This situation sparked protests throughout New York City, with protesters claiming this was another act of racism.
The liberal newspaper revealed that authorities charged the Marine veteran with manslaughter. However, he has managed to raise nearly $3 million for his defense since that day, with many people claiming he’s innocent and didn’t want to cause Neely’s death.
In a statement, the police said that the NYPD interviewed witnesses at the scene and examined plenty of evidence to get a full picture of what happened. The New York Times revealed that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is also collaborating with the NYPD in the investigation.
As reported by the New York Post, the Florida Governor praised Penny earlier in the week. DeSantis explained that the Marine veteran was trying to protect other people in the train, and said he was “a good Samaritan.” According to the report, the governor also said that the Marine veteran did the “right thing” as many passengers told the NYPD they felt threatened by Neely.
Following this incident, Ocasio-Cortez went to Neely’s funeral with other Democratic figures, and said this was a clear case of “public murder.”
