Backlash Pressures Salon to Shut Its Doors

(AmericanProsperity.com) – In case running a small business wasn’t hard enough before the pandemic, they now face stricter local and state laws regarding how and when to operate. But, for one San Francisco salon, backlash after a political controversy pushed the owner to close its doors permanently.

On Monday, August 31, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) visited eSalon to get her hair done by stylist Jonathan DeNardo. The next day, leaked security footage sparked calls of hypocrisy, as it showed an unmasked Pelosi visiting the salon before it was legally allowed to have customers inside.

Pelosi said she was “set up” by the salon, and that she did not know the city’s rules against indoor haircuts.

Salon owner Erica Kious decided to close the salon after numerous negative comments were directed at her in the form of calls, emails, and reviews. A GoFundMe page raised $336,543 for Erica and to “pay off any debts from the business that she is forced to shut down, expenses to relocate and reopen in a new location.”

House Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) invited Kious to make her way to his state if she chooses to open a new salon:

Amidst the chaos of the summer, the hurtful backlash of some Americans forced a small business to close its doors. Hopefully, Kious will find a more welcoming community to pursue her dreams.
