Biden Administration Faces More Lawsuits Over Racist COVID Relief

( – The novel coronavirus hit every business in this country differently. Some had to work virtually, others lost workers, and many small businesses went completely under, unable to keep up with the demanding times.

To combat the hardships faced by many American businesses, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law on March 11 of this year. He hoped to provide many business owners with loans to help make ends meet. But, the payment program has come under fire recently for its racist policies and preferential treatment of non-white business owners.

Five Farmers Sue the Biden Administration

On April 29, the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty filed a lawsuit for five midwestern farmers who were denied loans under Biden’s American Rescue Plan. As written, the law provides $4 billion to “socially disadvantaged” producers, which are defined by the US Department of Agriculture as “black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic, Asian, and Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.”

Adam Faust, one of the farmers who joined in the lawsuit, is white, but is also disabled from a life-long battle with spina bifida. Faust highlighted how our nation should not be “picking and choosing” who deserves federal money “based solely on the color of their skin.”

Another Lawsuit Takes Aim at the American Rescue Plan

The same Wisconsin law firm has also filed a lawsuit against Biden’s $28.6-billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund, which only took applications for its first two weeks from “socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.” Antonio Vitolo and his Hispanic wife, who co-own Jake’s Bar and Grill in Harriman, Tennessee, were ineligible to apply because their businesses did not meet the 51% ownership threshold to qualify as a “priority group” as set by the government.

Vitolo highlighted that he doesn’t want “special treatment,” but is seeking to “be treated equally under the law.” These are just a few of the instances where hardworking Americans whose businesses have suffered during the pandemic have been denied federal assistance because of the color of their skin.

The Biden Administration Must Acknowledge What They’ve Done

Thankfully, these lawsuits will bring the racist laws passed by Joe Biden under the microscope in the court of law. It’s times like these that Americans are thankful for our Fourteenth Amendment that grants everyone equal protection under the law and our justice system which will hopefully rectify the situation.
