White House Gets Fact-Checked On Twitter
(AmericanProsperity.com) – Billionaire Elon Musk is officially in charge of Twitter, and already the changes have forced White House officials to shape up their act. Fact-checkers on the platform flagged a recent tweet from the White House’s official Twitter account, which had inaccurately credited Social Security’s upcoming cost-of-living increase to President Joe Biden. Officials promptly deleted the offending post, but with nothing truly lost forever on the World Wide Web, the damage remains.

The Tweet, which MarketWatch saved for posterity, stated, “Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership.” Readers jumped in to clarify, pointing to a 1972 law requiring the agency to adjust its payments each year based on the Consumer Price Index.
Critics have used the opportunity to lambast Biden’s policies, placing the blame for the country’s economic woes firmly on the president’s leadership. Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) alleged the sudden and profound spike in payments actually reflects how the current administration has failed people.
Karine Jean-Pierre, press secretary for the White House, defended the Tweet, stating it had been “incomplete” and missing necessary “context.” She felt it was necessary to add how the increase offered Social Security recipients “extra breathing room” amid higher expenses. Jean-Pierre also took the opportunity to remind voters of the frequency of attempts at least one Republican lawmaker has to end Social Security altogether.
