(AmericanProsperity.com) – Joe Biden’s crusade to destroy America’s energy independence continues as Alaska fights back against his extreme restrictions on oil and gas leases.
The Democrat wilfully “ignored the law,” prompting the state to sue the administration for violating Congressional mandates and sabotaging its own economy.
In order to protect its economic interests, Alaska sued the Biden administration over “irrational restrictions” on oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor slammed the administration’s underhanded tactics.
“President Biden’s Administration ignored the law and took this unlawful detour without even presenting their final decision to the public for comment,” Taylor stated.
The state accuses the federal government of violating a Congressional mandate established under the Trump administration.
Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 required at least two oil and gas drilling lease sales in the ANWR by December 2024.
The Biden administration’s plan was to offer a meager 400,000 acres for leasing, the bare minimum required by law.
The move came with crippling restrictions that Alaska argues make development “economically and practically impossible.”
These restrictions are seen as a clear attempt to please radical environmentalists while technically complying with the law.
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy declared, “Interior’s continued and irrational opposition under the Biden administration to responsible energy development in the Arctic continues America on a path of energy dependence instead of utilizing the vast resources we have available.”
The lawsuit comes as no surprise to those familiar with Biden’s long-standing opposition to fossil fuel development.
Since taking office, his administration has targeted Alaska’s economic development projects, canceling previous ANWR leases and restricting oil and gas extraction in vast swaths of land.
This relentless assault on American energy independence is part of Biden’s pledge to “end fossil fuels,” a stance that threatens national security and economic stability.
Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan has documented over 60 Biden-era decisions that have negatively impacted oil and gas production in the state.
Due to the Biden administration’s suffocating restrictions, major companies are unlikely to show much interest in the upcoming lease sale, scheduled for January 10.
Dunleavy concluded:
“We have already heard comments from the incoming president that his administration will thankfully take a different tack and open up those areas that are meant to be developed. But unfortunately, we can’t wait for that—we have to challenge this unlawful action now.”
As the legal battle unfolds, the stakes could not be higher. Alaska’s lawsuit seeks to have the court declare the lease sale plan unlawful.
It also aims to prevent any leases from being issued under these restrictive conditions.
