Bomb Threat at Polling Site

Bomb Threat at Polling Site

( – Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, many Americans have been on higher alert for threats to our national security, election integrity and freedoms. This week, one of those threats became real, as dog walkers stumbled upon a pipe bomb at an Iowa polling location.

On Tuesday, March 2, police officers arrived at the Lakeside Center in Ankeny, IA, after a pair of dog walkers reported a suspicious-looking device outside the polling location. Police then evacuated the building while the bomb squad went to work safely dismantling what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

All in all, the disruption shut down the Ankeny Community School District special election voting from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the center. Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald shared more about the bomb on Twitter:

Thankfully, the Ankeny Police department heroically fulfilled its duty in protecting the town’s citizens from the bomb threat. Alongside election staff and volunteers, the community worked together to ensure everyone was safe and that the election could continue as planned. It is times like these we are reminded just how proud we are to have incredible local police heroes all around our nation keeping us safe and secure.
