Border Czar: ‘We Went from 1,800 to 38’

Promises made, promises kept: President Donald Trump’s administration has achieved a stunning 96% drop in illegal border crossings in just 100 days.

Border Czar Tom Homan highlighted the administration’s remarkable achievement during a recent White House briefing.

He explained that the president’s strong border policies have made it possible to reduce the number of gotaways, going from almost 2,000 under Joe Biden to just a few dozen.

Homan declared:

“Known gotaways — people we knew crossed the border… weren’t apprehended, weren’t fingerprinted, weren’t vetted. Average day under Joe Biden? More than 1,800 gotaways. Yesterday? 38 — 38 too many, but we’ll get that to zero. We went from 1,800 [per day] to 38.”

New data show that fewer than 10,000 aliens crossed the border illegally in April 2025, down from over 128,000 a year ago.

The success comes from aggressive deportations, new executive actions, and the end of catch-and-release policies that plagued American communities.

The Trump administration’s success extends beyond just stopping crossings.

In its first 100 days, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 66,000 illegal aliens and deported more than 65,000.

Border Patrol statistics confirm illegal crossings have plummeted to levels not seen in at least 25 years, with April’s numbers following record lows of 8,300 in February and 7,100 in March.

The administration has moved swiftly to reverse the Biden-era border crisis through a series of executive orders and aggressive enforcement actions.

Described as the largest deportation operation in American history, Operation Tidal Wave has already removed over 100,000 illegal aliens from the country.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized the administration’s determination to restore order at the southern border.

“We are in the process of carrying out the largest deportation campaign in American history,” she declared during a recent briefing.

Leavitt highlighted that ICE officers are now fully empowered to perform their duties, after years of restrictions under the Biden administration.

Recent deportations have targeted dangerous criminal gangs after President Trump designated groups like Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

In a show of force, the administration recently sent migrants to an El Salvador mega-prison and invoked the rarely-used Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport Venezuelan gang members.

“Under President Trump, we have arrested over 150,000 aliens — including more than 600 members of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang,” stated Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The administration has also made significant progress on physical border security, with over 85 miles of new barriers constructed or planned.

President Trump’s executive order to prevent taxpayer resources from supporting illegal immigration has cut off funding that previously incentivized illegal entry.

Veteran Border Patrol agent Manny Bayon, with 25 years of experience, confirmed the unprecedented nature of these improvements.

“We’re just 100 days into this administration and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities,” said ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons.

The administration’s thorough approach includes signing the Laken Riley Act into law and announcing a new plan to end sanctuary cities by threatening federal funding for non-compliance.
