(AmericanProsperity.com) – The trifecta is official! Now that the final race has been called, the GOP kept its hold over the House of Representatives after flipping the White House and the Senate.
In the end, Democrat Adam Gray narrowly defeated Republican Rep. John Duarte in California’s 13th congressional district.
The final U.S. House contest of the 2024 elections left Republicans with a slim 220-215 majority in the House.
Gray’s upset victory was decided by fewer than 200 votes and raises serious questions about the Central Valley’s changing demographics.
Duarte also faced a huge battle during the last election cycle as he previously secured this seat by a margin of 564 votes in 2022.
For his reelection campaign, Duarte focused on critical issues like curbing rampant inflation, addressing rising crime rates and securing vital water supplies.
His recent loss raises concerns about potential demographic shifts and voting patterns that may destroy conservative strongholds in California’s agricultural heartland.
Gray’s campaign focused on typically liberal talking points such as state water management, agriculture, infrastructure, renewable energy and education.
Although the district’s most consistent voters are typically white, older and wealthier homeowners, the already large Latino population is rising.
Adding to the upset, Democrats managed to flip three Republican-held seats in California.
Although Duarte graciously conceded the race, his statement hints at a possible future campaign.
“I’m a citizen legislator, and I didn’t plan on being in Congress forever,” he remarked, leaving the door open for a potential comeback.
