BREAKING: Layoffs In U.S. Jump 245%

Stack of newspapers with breaking news headline

(AmericanProsperity.com) – At a time when President Donald Trump is downsizing the federal government to improve efficiency, a bombshell report reveals that layoffs jumped a massive 245%

Specifically, February saw 172,017 job cuts, marking the highest level since July 2020.

62,242 of those cuts come from government positions as the administration works to fulfill campaign promises to streamline wasteful bureaucracy.

The February employment report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas revealed job cuts increased by a staggering 245% from January.

These numbers represent the highest layoffs for any February since 2009.

Elon Musk’s leadership at the Department of Government Efficiency has been key in identifying and eliminating redundant positions across federal agencies.

Critics have complained about the speed and scope of the cuts, but supporters see this as the bold action needed to drain the Washington swamp that President Trump promised during his campaign.

While government agencies saw the largest reductions, private-sector companies also announced significant layoffs.

The retail sector reported 38,956 job cuts in February alone, with major companies like Macy’s and Forever 21 reducing their workforce.

Technology firms eliminated 14,554 positions, though this actually represents an improvement from the previous year’s tech industry bloodbath.

Challenger, Gray & Christmas senior vice president Andrew Challenger stated, “With the impact of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) actions, as well as canceled Government contracts, fear of trade wars, and bankruptcies, job cuts soared in February.”

Some Democrat-appointed judges have attempted to block the administration’s efficiency efforts.

“It appears the administration wants to cut even more workers, but an order to fire the roughly 200,000 probationary employees was blocked by a federal judge,” Challenger noted.

Despite the necessary reduction in wasteful government positions, the underlying economy shows remarkable resilience under President Trump’s leadership.

Hiring announcements in February reached 34,580 jobs, the highest since 2022.

Entertainment and leisure firms plan to add 28,000 new workers, while American automakers announced 4,831 new positions.

The administration’s commitment to reducing the size of government remains strong despite resistance from entrenched bureaucrats and activist judges.

Overall hiring plans have increased by 159% compared to the previous year, showing that the economy is reallocating resources from inefficient government programs to productive private enterprises.
