Casualties of Women and Children Reach 25,000?!

( – The Israel-Gaza war has claimed thousands of lives since Israel has been targeting areas that are packed with civilians, thus causing the death toll to skyrocket. This was a topic of conversation during a recent congressional hearing.

Lloyd Austin, US Defence Secretary, was asked during this hearing how many women and children were killed in the war since it began. Austin’s response was “It is more than 25,000.”

Israel has been under pressure from The International Court of Justice; the ICJ has been investigating whether or not Israel is committing genocide, claiming that their acts are putting mostly civilian lives in danger. Austin spoke out on the amount of aid and weapons that the United States has been sending to Israel, saying, “I expect that when we provide munitions to allies and partners, they’ll use them in a responsible way.”

Austin was also asked about the stance on halting military sales to Israel if they invade Rafah, which is currently housing over 1.5 million Palestinians. Austin suggested that Israel has a plan to protect those civilians in Rafah, but that the final decision is up to Joe Biden.

This congressional hearing came after the Israeli military opened fire at Palestinians who were waiting to get food. The details of this attack are still uncertain as there are various accounts of what happened.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh stated that Ausitin’s number was not from the Health Ministry in Gaza but rather from U.S. Intelligence. The Health Ministry in Gaza stated that there have been over 30,000 Palestinians killed in the war including over 12,000 children and more than 8,000 women.
