(AmericanProsperity.com) – In a tragic turn of events, four people, including a child, were killed during a devastating helicopter crash in Houston’s Second Ward.

The incident involved a private touring helicopter colliding with a radio tower, resulting in a fiery explosion that lit up the night sky.

The crash happened near Engelke Street and North Ennis Street, sending shockwaves through the community.

The Robinson R44 II helicopter is believed to have departed from Ellington Airport. It struck a communication tower behind homes in the Second Ward, causing a large explosion and a fire that spread across two to three blocks.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire addressed the tragedy, stating, “This is a tragic event tonight, it’s a tragic loss of life.”

While the identities of the victims have not been released, the deaths, particularly that of a child, have left the community.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident.

In a small silver lining, no injuries were reported on the ground and no homes or structures were impacted aside from the radio tower.

Houston police Lt. Jonathan French acknowledged this, stating, “This could have been much worse.”

However, the lieutenant also emphasized the gravity of the situation, adding, “We want to keep the families and our victims in mind right now. This is a horrible tragedy.”

Local residents have been urged to report any debris they might encounter as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
