(AmericanProsperity.com) – The Chinese government has spoken out against the European Union tariffs that were placed on electric vehicle imports.
A Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said that Beijing continues to believe that the probe into China’s subsidies in the EV industry has come to “pre-set conclusions” and stated that it was promoting unfair competition.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce said, “China will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.”
The European Commission lowered import duties on many different electric vehicle manufacturers that were importing cars from China. It also set tariffs for Elon Musk’s electric vehicle, Tesla, at nine percent, which is much lower than the predicted twenty perfect tariffs that were originally stated.
The Commission continued to lower tariffs for many Chinese electric vehicle makers like BYD, Geely, and SAIC. The tariffs come as a response to concerns from the bloc that these Chinese EVs are distorting competition in Europe.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry said that the government and China’s EV industry provided “tens of thousands of pages of legal documents and evidence materials through various means such as submitting questionnaires, written comments, and hearing statements.”
The documents also laid out how these tariffs from the EU “will disrupt the stability of the global automotive industry chain supply chain including the EU.”
The Ministry added, ”China firmly opposes and is highly concerned about this.” It also added that it hopes to resolve any trade disputes with the EU and to take action to avoid an escalation of trade issues.
