(AmericanProsperity.com) – China’s state media and foreign ministry has criticized Washington after a report that the United States President Joe Biden reoriented the nuclear strategy plan to focus on Beijing’s expansion of nuclear weapons.
An editor from the Global Times based in Beijing said that China has “become the best excuse” for the U.S. in justifying “maintaining such a massive nuclear arsenal in the post-Cold War world.”
“Instead of smearing and hyping up China, the US should reflect on itself and consider how to rebuild mutual trust with China through dialogue and sincerity,” the Global Times editor continued.
China’s foreign ministry has often said that the United States is trying to push a nuclear threat narrative on China to justify a strategic advantage.
“We have no intention to engage in any form of arms race with other countries,” said Mao Ning, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman.
The New York Times reported that Biden approved a “Nuclear Employment Guidance” strategy that came after the Pentagon’s warning that China’s nuclear stockpile was reaching heights of Russia’s and the United States.
The revised strategy was for America to prepare for “possible coordinated nuclear challenges from China, Russia and North Korea,” according to the NYT. A report from the Pentagon showed that China’s nuclear inventory has expanded almost double and that it is expected to reach over one thousand by the end of the decade.
However, the White House has said that this nuclear plan isn’t a direct result of a threat or any single country.
