Christie Says GOP Candidates Will Have To “Go Through” Trump

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Former New Jersey Governor and Republican leader Chris Christie said on Sunday that GOP presidential candidates will have to “go through” former US President Donald Trump in case they “really” want to beat him in the primaries and become the party’s nominee for next year’s presidential election.

During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Christie said that the only thing GOP candidates need to focus on is beat Trump. He explained this is because “There’s one lane. And that one lane, Donald Trump’s at the head of.” He also pointed out there’s no other way to become the nominee, considering that the former president is a strong candidate that all polls show as the favorite to win the GOP primaries.

The former governor made these comments in a moment many media outlets keep suggesting he could be about to announce his presidential bid anytime. So far, he has been mulling over his potential move, which many find surprising considering that polls don’t show Christie as a strong candidate to compete against the former US commander-in-chief or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who hasn’t officially announced his presidential bid but could do it next week.

While Christie was an important Trump ally, he became one of his most vocal critics after the January 6th, 2021 Capitol. Lately, the former New Jersey Governor has said on different media appearances not only that he’s the most “viable Trump alternative” but also that President Joe Biden will win reelection if he has to face Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Christie closed the interview on ABC pointing out Trump will be untouchable “until there’s a campaign engaged.” He explained that all candidates are untouchable until someone decides it’s enough, adding this is going to happen in the primaries and that the American people will see Trump’s real face when he’s attacked. Christie also said candidates will need to take advantage of this situation to have more chances.
