(AmericanProsperity.com) – Congressional members having the ability to trade stocks is a topic of heated debate. Some politicians demand there be rules in place for trading but fail to adhere to them. US Representative Cindy Axne (D-IA) has found herself in hot water after using taxpayer funds in an attempt to fix her problems.
The Iowa Democrat failed to disclose her stock trading, a violation of the STOCK Act. A nonpartisan watchdog group, the Campaign Legal Center, exposed Axne’s trading up to $645,000, accusing her of failing to disclose the information. Turns out she turned around and used taxpayer money to hire liberal fixer Marc Elias, which she also failed to disclose.
Just two days after a nonpartisan watchdog group filed a complaint showing @RepCindyAxne failed to disclose up to $645,000 in stock trades, the Iowa Democrat used thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds to hire liberal fixer Marc Elias.

Jeff Kaufmann, the Iowa Republican Chairman, criticized Axne’s decision to hire Elias, mentioning it was the same Democrat lawyer Rita Hart hired in an attempt to reverse an election she lost to Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks. The congresswoman admitted she failed to disclose her trading information, adding she hired an outside entity to audit her reports, but she never mentioned who it was or how much it would cost taxpayers. Turns out she used nearly $20,000 in taxpayer funds to hire Elias.
The news could seriously damage Axne’s political career and will certainly be a point of contention with Republicans who look to unseat her in the midterm elections. She’s already facing a rough road ahead as she runs in a district that former President Donald Trump won in 2016 and 2020. The public may not be very trusting of Axne after this revelation, meaning it’s likely she may lose her seat in the House of Representatives.
