(AmericanProsperity.com) – Climate scientist Dr. Patrick Brown said on September 5 that climate science now needs to fit into “preapproved narratives” so these can be officially published by prestigious scientific journals. He also confessed he omitted the full results of a study he made about the links between climate change and wildfires so this one could eventually be published in the British journal Nature.
In a Free Press article, Brown wrote that the paper he published focused exclusively on how extreme wildfire behavior has been affected by climate change. However, he revealed he deliberately left out some “key aspects” that were unrelated to climate change, as he knew this would “dilute” the type of story that journals like Science and Nature “want to tell.”
Brown explained this is an “important” issue as it’s crucial for many scientists to be published in prestigious journals, but the editors of these publications have a clear agenda. He noted that what they want to be in their journals is any climate paper that supports “preapproved narratives,” no matter if these omit significant information and data.
The scientist pointed out that many who want to be published in these types of journals are “discouraged” from suggesting practical solutions. He said these include better forest management to prevent wildfires, as well as employing adaption measures like better zoning or more resilient infrastructures. Brown also revealed that scientists are encouraged to recommend policies that are aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as the Inflation Reduction Act.
Additionally, he wrote that climate science has now become “a kind of Cassandra” whose only goal is to warn everyone about the dangers of climate change, instead of understanding its “complexities.” Brown then said that even when he understands why this is happening, this approach “distorts” climate science research and even misinforms the public on this matter. Finally, he said this is a great problem as it makes it more difficult to implement “practical solutions.”
