(AmericanProsperity.com) – Patriotic Representative Anna Paulina Luna escalated her battle against the controversial “sanctuary city” policies by declaring she wants four Democrat mayors arrested and investigated over their policies that shield illegal aliens.

Luna’s move represents the first major enforcement action after Trump’s re-election as Democrats continue to resist the administration’s immigration agenda.
During a fiery House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on March 5, 2025, Luna confronted the mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City, accusing them of violating federal law by harboring illegal immigrants.
Luna informed the mayors that she would send criminal referrals to appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi immediately after the hearing.
“I just referred the sanctuary city mayors to the Department of Justice for CRIMINAL investigations based on evidence from their own comments and policies, proving that they were breaking federal law,” Luna stated firmly during the proceedings.
The hearing revealed how these Democrat-run cities have actively undermined immigration enforcement by preventing local law enforcement from reporting immigration status to federal authorities.
Luna specifically cited Title 8, U.S. Code § 1324, which prohibits bringing in, harboring, and employing unauthorized aliens – violations these mayors have openly committed through their sanctuary policies.
Republican members of the committee, led by Chairman James Comer (R-KY), pressed the mayors on their willingness to defy President Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D-CO) attempted to defend his city’s sanctuary policies with emotional appeals rather than legal arguments, claiming he would protect illegal aliens from deportation – a direct challenge to federal authority.

Moreover, the mayors tried to justify their defiance by claiming their sanctuary policies are about “public safety” and “maintaining trust” with immigrant communities.
However, GOP members of the committee pointed out that these policies clearly violate federal law and the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, which establishes that federal law takes precedence over state laws.
“I do not think you guys are bad people, but I do think you are ideologically misled. Which is why, unfortunately, based on your responses, I’m going to be criminally referring you all to the Department of Justice for investigation,” Luna reaffirmed.
The hearing also highlighted the effectiveness of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s border security strategy, which includes busing migrants to sanctuary cities like Denver.
This program has forced these liberal mayors to finally confront the consequences of their own open-border policies as their cities struggle with the financial burden of providing for thousands of illegal immigrants.
While Luna’s criminal referral does not guarantee prosecution, it sends a strong message that the new Trump administration intends to enforce immigration laws and hold accountable those who deliberately obstruct them.
With Pam Bondi now leading the DOJ, sanctuary city mayors may soon face real consequences for their actions.
Luna, who also leads the House Oversight Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, has been a staunch defender of law and order.
Her commitment to enforcing federal immigration law shows the administration’s determination to fulfill campaign promises and restore the rule of law in America’s cities.
