(AmericanProsperity.com) – President-elect Donald Trump has not even been sworn in and the left has already started mindlessly attacking his cabinet choices.
Specifically, Democrat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz accused former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of being a “Russian asset.”
Gabbard, now a Republican, is Trump’s pick for the Director of National Intelligence position.
Wasserman Schultz used her appearance on MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports” to disparage Gabbard, citing her past actions and statements.
“There’s no question I consider her someone who is likely a Russian asset,” she remarked.
Wasserman Schultz’s accusations stem from Gabbard’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in 2017, which violated State Department guidance.
“Tulsi Gabbard is someone who has met with war criminals, violated the Department of State’s guidance and secretly clandestinely went to Syria and met with Assad who gassed and attacked his own people with chemical weapons,” Wasserman Schultz stated.
Critics argue that Wasserman Schultz’s claims are baseless and politically motivated.
They point to her own controversial past, including the 2016 DNC election rigging allegations and the Russian dossier scandal, as reasons to question her credibility.
Furthermore, Gabbard’s supporters highlight her military service, including her time as a veteran of the Iraq War, as evidence of her patriotism and commitment to national security.
The accusations against Gabbard are not new. During the 2020 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton called Gabbard a “favorite of the Russians.”
Outgoing Senator Mitt Romney has also criticized Gabbard for “parroting Russian propaganda,” particularly regarding U.S. intelligence conclusions on Russia and Ukraine.
However, many view these accusations as part of a broader pattern of the left using “Russian asset” claims to discredit political opponents.
They argue that Gabbard’s willingness to question the establishment narrative on foreign policy issues does not make her a Russian asset but a leader unafraid to challenge the status quo.
As Director of National Intelligence, Gabbard would oversee the U.S. intelligence community and advise the president on crucial security matters.
Her supporters argue that her military background and experience in Congress make her well-suited for this role.
