Pennsylvania DA Gets Impeached

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a longstanding source of frustration for Republicans in the state, maybe on his way out of office. The heavily Republican Pennsylvania House of Representatives officially voted 107-85 to impeach Krasner on November 16.

The Democratic DA is accused of a variety of transgressions, including misbehavior in office and obstruction of justice. But a document penned and signed by Senator Jake Corman back in January also lays the blame for skyrocketing violent crime rates in the region squarely on Krasner’s “failed policies.”

A memo from the Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus released the day of the vote shares similar sentiments. In it, Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff blasts Krasner for abusing his prosecutorial discretion and engaging in ineffective mismanagement of his office.

But that’s just the beginning. According to the same document, the real case against Krasner lies in his “inability or refusal to prosecute” violent criminals and people charged with firearms offenses. Members of the caucus claim the DA’s soft-on-crime approach allows more criminals back onto the street, where they often re-offend. They believe it’s long past time to crack down on people who harm others or pose a risk to the public.

Krasner unsurprisingly disagrees. In an official statement from November 16, he pointed to his own landslide election victories as proof of support. He also called the impeachment “anti-democratic” and “authoritarian.”

Krasner now faces the prospect of a highly uncertain future. Step one will likely be a Senate trial at an undetermined date. His path beyond that remains unclear.
