Deepfake Of Putin Declares Russia Under Martial Law

( – The Kremlin said on Monday that hackers broadcast a fabricated emergency televised plea from a digitally-created version of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the fake plea, Putin’s computer-generated version urged the immediate implementation of martial law, claiming that Ukrainian troops entered Russia.

According to different reports, numerous television and radio stations in the country’s border regions aired the message, which was heard by thousands of Russians. The televised version showed a realistic-looking Putin calling citizens to evacuate their homes and look for safety inside the country. The fake Putin also declared that Russia was executing a full-scale mobilization as an all-out war against Ukraine would begin anytime soon.

The broadcast also said that Ukrainian forces entered the territories of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk with the help of the United States. It also said that all men that can fight will be eligible to beat the “perfidious enemy.”

Following the broadcast, Kremlin’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said in a statement that this speech never happened and that Western media is lying. He explained that security services were already investigating the case. However, TV operators in Crimea, which has been occupied by Russian forces since the year 2014, confirmed that hackers compromised their systems.

This cyberattack against Russia comes a couple of days after pro-Ukrainian fighters crossed the border under the Russian Volunteer and Legion of Free Russia banners. One of these groups said it managed to take numerous prisoners during one of the incursions, claiming they would exchange them for Ukrainian soldiers.

On Monday, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar told reporters that Ukraine’s troops are taking “offensive actions” against Russian forces. He also said some of these actions are taking place on the front line. This was a delicate remark as many people think that the Ukrainian government is behind these armed incursions, which could escalate the war.
