(AmericanProsperity.com) – Helping propel President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda to new heights, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking bold action to secure America’s borders and protect Floridians from illegal immigration.
Specifically, DeSantis called for a special legislative session to align state policy with Trump’s immigration agenda.
Watch the video down below.
By doing so, the governor demonstrates Florida’s commitment to enforcing the law and putting America First.
DeSantis announced the special session will begin on January 27, just days after Trump’s inauguration.
This strategic timing ensures Florida is ready to act quickly on anticipated executive orders from the new administration.
DeSantis emphasized the situation’s urgency, stating, “We don’t have time to waste. The American people spoke very clearly.”
The governor’s plan includes several key measures to crack down on illegal immigration and remove incentives for unlawful entry into Florida.
One significant proposal is to repeal the law allowing in-state tuition for illegal aliens, a move supported by State Sen. Randy Fine.
Fine has previously cited the financial burden on taxpayers and unfair advantages given to those breaking the law.
DeSantis is also pushing for legislation to impose additional duties on local officials and provide necessary funding to support enforcement efforts.
He stressed, “There also needs to be measures to hold people accountable who are violating our anti-sanctuary policies.”
The governor’s proactive approach stands in contrast to Democrat governors in other states who are preparing to resist federal immigration policies.
DeSantis’ actions align Florida with the Trump administration’s commitment to secure borders and enforce immigration laws, setting an example for other states to follow.
While some Democrat leaders have criticized the special session as a political move, DeSantis remains focused on the crisis at the southern border.
He plans to allocate millions for enforcement and may even activate the Florida National Guard for in-state measures.
“We are going to see a sea change in policies, particularly with respect to the border and illegal immigration,” DeSantis explained.
