(AmericanProsperity.com) – Tragedy struck in Mississippi as three heroic medical responders lost their lives in a helicopter crash while serving their community.

Watch the video down below.

The incident marks the first fatal accident in the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMCC) 29-year air medical program history.

The crash also highlights the daily dangers faced by America’s first responders, who risk everything to save others.

Med-Trans operated the medical transport helicopter under the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

It crashed in a wooded area near Mississippi’s capital, killing all three crew members on board.

According to federal aviation authorities, the Eurocopter EC-135 went down near the Natchez Trace Parkway and Highway 43 in Madison County.

The victims included a pilot and two crew members from the AirCare 3 unit, one of four medical helicopter units operated by the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

The helicopter had just completed a patient drop-off and was returning to Columbus when the tragic incident occurred. No patients were on board at the time of the crash.

Republican Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves honored the fallen heroes with powerful words that resonated with many across the state.

“It’s a tragic reminder of the risks Mississippi’s first responders take every day to keep us safe. Our state will never forget the sacrifice of these heroes,” Reeves stated.

UMMC Health Affairs Vice Chancellor Dr. LouAnn Woodward stated, “This is an unimaginable loss for our AirCare team, which has served Mississippi for nearly three decades without a fatal accident.”

“The entire medical center family is heartbroken over this,” she added. “This is the crew that responds to emergencies all across the state, and to see them today to respond to one of their own was just something that you can’t put into words.”

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the cause of the crash, with the NTSB taking the lead.

While these agencies work to determine what happened, local authorities have asked citizens to avoid the crash site to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Med-Trans Corporation is a national air medical provider based in Denton, Texas.

The company maintains a large fleet with numerous base locations across the United States, providing critical emergency services to Americans in need of urgent medical transport.

This incident follows a recent medical transport jet crash in Philadelphia that resulted in seven fatalities, raising concerns about the safety protocols of medical transport aircraft.

As the investigation continues, the Madison County community and first responders across America mourn the loss of three brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
