(AmericanProsperity.com) – Walt Disney and DirecTV have announced that they’ve reached an agreement which would restore college football and other programming to the TV providers for more than eleven million subscribers.
The deal gives many TV subscribers more choice and flexibility, according to the company’s joint statement. DirecTV previously lost access to Disney owned networks such as ABC and ESPN.
After the deal, DirecTV will be able to offer multiple genre-specific programming packages which would include those focused on entertainment, sports, kids, and family programming as well. The TV provider’s goal was to change its offerings to address consumer tastes in an era of TV streaming.
All of Disney’s streaming services including Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney+ will be included in certain DirecTV packages.
“DirecTV and Disney have a long-standing history of connecting consumers to the best entertainment, and this agreement furthers that commitment by recognizing both the tremendous value of Disney’s content and the evolving preferences of DIRECTV’s customers,” they said in a joint statement.
Due to the dispute between companies, DirecTV subscribers lost access to programming networks such as ESPN’s college football or the U.S. Open. They were also unable to watch the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
DirecTV’s chief marketing officer, Vince Torres, said that this programming blackout could cost them subscribers.
Following this, the two companies came to an agreement but many programmers like Disney have complained over rates as the cost of televisions packages continue to rise.
DirecTV has stated that they want this opportunity to offer its subscribers genre-based programming packages that would be tailored to their viewing preferences.
