Dmitry Medvedev Threatens Missile Strikes In Ukraine

( – Russia’s Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on July 9 that the Russian military could attack three nuclear power plants and facilities in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Medvedev claimed that the Kremlin might approve this action if Ukraine attacks Russia’s Smolensk nuclear power plant with “NATO missiles.”

In a statement published on his Telegram account, Medvedev said that if the “attempt to attack” the Russian nuclear power plant “is confirmed,” Russia will do the same. He said that the Russian military would deploy a strike on the Rivne, Khmelnytsky, and Pivdennoukrainsk nuclear power plants in Ukraine. The Security Council Deputy Chairman said his country would do the same in “nuclear facilities in Eastern Europe,” adding they will have “no reason to hold back.”

Medvedev made these comments after the Pro-Russia propaganda telegram channel Mash reported on July 8 that Ukraine was trying to attack Smolensk. The channel explained that the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky was planning with some NATO nations to use missiles from the alliance and attack Russia. While the channel detailed that the main objective was the nuclear power plant located in the city of Desnogorsk, it provided no evidence about this alleged plan.

In addition to the attack against Smolensk, the Marsh Telegram channel also said that Kyiv and some NATO countries were also targeting a military airfield in Kaluga. This is a crucial military site, as military experts have been claiming Russia would have to delay future attacks against Ukraine if this one is successfully attacked.

Mash also claimed that Russian air defenses allegedly shot down British-made Storm Shadow missiles that were used by Ukraine in a “failed attack” against Smolensk. The channel said that while it hasn’t been able to confirm this information, the “wreckage” could be the “proof.”

Following these reports, the Governor of Rostov Oblast Vasily Golubev said that air defense systems were activated and neutralized a missile near Kamianske. About this situation, Medvedev said authorities are already making proper investigations.
