(AmericanProsperity.com) – American children are in danger as doctors sound the alarm on seemingly innocent playthings that can cause life-threatening injuries when swallowed.
Doctors across the nation are warning about the severe risks posed by small magnetic toys and water beads, which can cause deadly internal injuries if ingested.
Water beads, marketed as educational sensory toys, can expand to a staggering 400 times their original size when swallowed.
This expansion can lead to life-threatening bowel obstructions, especially in young children.
The Royal College of Emergency Medicine has highlighted deaths linked to these innocent-looking beads in the United States, proving that this is a real and present danger to kids.
The scope of this problem is shocking. Water beads alone caused over 8,000 emergency room visits since 2007, with a significant spike between 2021 and 2022. More than half of these cases involved children under five years old.
“As an emergency medicine doctor, I have seen parents holding their child’s hand and watching over them while they lay on a bed in an emergency department, in need of urgent care because they have ingested one of these items,” said Dr. Salwa Malik.
Additionally, small, high-powered magnets pose a huge risk. When multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other through intestinal walls, causing severe internal damage.
These “toys” can perforate organs and create life-threatening blockages in children’s digestive systems.
Only after several incidents of injury and death did the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Buffalo Games recall over 50,000 water bead kits.
Electric scooters have also led to a 71% increase in injuries among children and teens from 2020 to 2021.
