(AmericanProsperity.com) – Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, has met with former president Donald Trump as public tensions have rose between the two over the United States support of Ukraine in their war against Russia.
Trump said, “We both want to see this end, and we both want to see a fair deal made.” He continued, “The president wants it to end, and he wants it to end as quickly as possible. He wants a fair transaction to take place.”
Zelenskyy has said that the war shouldn’t have started and he stated that there should be pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We need to do everything to pressure him to stop this war. He is in our territory. That’s most important to understand. He is in our territory,” he said.
The meeting came at a very critical moment in the Russian-Ukraine war as the Election Day for the United States approaches. Zelenskyy has been looking to keep a good relationship with the United States despite who gets elected as president.
There has been some skepticism around what would happen if Donald Trump were to win the election as he has stated that he would pull funding and aid from Ukraine, if he was elected president of the United States.
Trump has even spoken fondly of the Russian President saying that he is “pretty smart” for invading Ukraine and he has criticized the United State’s support of Ukraine.
The history behind the leaders goes back to Trump’s “favor” he asked of Zelenskyy, which was to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. This followed with an impeachment inquiry that continued into the presidency.
Zelenskyy had an interview with The New Yorker where he implied that Trump doesn’t understand and oversimplifies the war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, has said that Ukraine should “make a sacrifice” by “giving up its territories.”
