El Paso Declares State of Emergency Over Border Crisis

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The number of illegal crossings along the US-Mexico border has increased more than fivefold since 2020. In October 2022 alone, patrol officers encountered 230,678 undocumented individuals — nearly half of 2020’s total for the fiscal year. Numerous conservative leaders have attempted to shed light on the issue, only to see their concerns set aside by members of the Left. Now, the leader of El Paso, a Democrat, is joining the fray.

Mayor Oscar Leeser (D) agrees the influx of illegal immigrants is alarming, noting the numbers could more than double after Title 42’s official expiration on December 21. Fox News shared that the progressive leader has declared a state of emergency in the area and is seeking additional help from the state.

Reuters indicated that the left-leaning leader continues to take a softer approach to immigrants in his care, with his concerns leaning more toward accommodation than expulsion. But shelters have reached capacity, and people are sleeping on the streets — an issue that’s become dangerous as extreme seasonal temperatures hit. El Paso has resorted to busing its overflow to New York and Chicago, but Leeser wants additional options, and the emergency declaration will provide funding to help the city respond.

What are your thoughts on the border crisis? Are leaders doing enough to address the problem?
