(AmericanProsperity.com) – Former Barack Obama adviser David Axelrod suggested on November 4 it would be “wise” for US President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. Axelrod made these comments after a new survey that revealed President Biden would lose by up to 10 points to former President Donald Trump in five battleground states he won in the last presidential election.
The survey, which was conducted by the New York Times-Siena College, revealed that Trump currently has a significant lead in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. The poll’s result prompted the Democratic consultant to ask if it was in the nation’s “best interest” for President Biden to win the Democratic Party’s nomination, with the risk of being defeated by Trump next year.
In a Twitter post, Axelrod explained that the only person who could “make this decision” was President Biden. However, he acknowledged it would be difficult for the Democratic Party to put forward another “solid” candidate, as he said it was already too late “to change horses.”
Axelrod pointed out that the president’s main “liability” with American voters is his age. He also noted that while the Democratic leader should feel “proud” of his accomplishments as the US commander-in-chief, the country is facing a serious risk with Trump’s chances of winning the next presidential election.
About the Republican leader, the former Obama adviser said that Trump is an “unhinged demagogue” who doesn’t respect the rules or the American Constitution. He added that Trump is a threat to the United States’ democracy and institutions.
Beyond the president’s age, the poll revealed that another problem President Biden has in the five battleground states is that Trump’s popularity among black voters has reached a record 22 percent. The survey also showed that most voters across “all income levels” feel they have been “personally hurt” by President Biden’s economic policies, and said they have more confidence in Trump in handling the economy.
According to an Axios report, major Democratic leaders were boosting “their national profiles” to run for president in case President Biden dropped out of the race. Some of these leaders include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
