Farmers Sue Over Biden's Racist COVID Relief Plan

( – For many American small businesses hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government’s loan forgiveness program was a life-saver. But, it turns out that the forgivable loans available to farmers through President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan were not for all disadvantaged farmers — just the non-white ones. To combat this, some farmers are taking Biden to court.

Discrimination In Biden’s American Rescue Plan

In March of this year, the American Rescue Plan was signed into law, hoping to bring a bit of monetary relief to Americans. Part of the bill included loan forgiveness for “socially disadvantaged” farmers, which were defined by the bill and the Department of Agriculture as “black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic, Asian, and Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.”

This was meant to help end what Democrats call “systemic racism” in our country, but it certainly has not done that. The Rescue Plan’s definitions mean that white farmers are automatically ineligible for assistance because of the color of their skin, regardless of how hard their farm was hit by the coronavirus pandemic and shutdowns.

Five American Farmers Fight Back

Understandably, many farmers who were denied assistance were upset by this racist law. Wisconsin dairy farmer Adam Foust, who was born with spina bifida and has two prosthetic legs, has joined four other farmers from across the nation in a lawsuit against the Biden administration.

Together, the producers who are bringing the lawsuit farm over 2,000 acres of land and raise nearly 500 cattle while growing a variety of crops including soybeans and corn.

The Wisconsin Law Firm Fighting for Equality

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) is representing the five farmers as they challenge this allegedly unconstitutional law. Rick Esenberg, WILL’s president and general counsel, affirmed that his organization will fight the “current threats” against our nation’s “bedrock principle of equality under the law.”

While some Democratic policies mean well and try to better our nation, many do the exact opposite. As the law currently stands, the federal government denies assistance to certain Americans based on their skin color. Hopefully, WILL and these farmers can hold our government and the Biden administration accountable for this and bring the law back into agreement with the true definition of equality.
