FBI Agent Involved in Kidnapping Case Arrested for Domestic Assault

(AmericanProsperity.com) – During the height of government-imposed coronavirus shutdowns, tensions ran high in states all across the nation, including Michigan. At one point, the FBI thwarted a plot by six far-right militia members to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D). However, the investigation and trial are now in jeopardy as an FBI agent involved in the case has been arrested.

On Monday, July 19, FBI special agent Richard Trask was charged with one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm after an altercation occurred with his wife the day before. Trask has worked for the FBI for 10 years on cases involving terrorism, domestic extremism, and espionage.

Earlier this year, Trask testified in federal court against a defendant and alleged bomb-maker involved in the plot against Whitmer. He also signed an affidavit outlining the major events of the case. This arrest could put the prosecution in jeopardy by giving the defense more ammunition to use against them.

Former White House official Darren J. Beattie highlighted how this was not the first person involved in prosecution to be arrested:

This arrest could give the six defendants a leg up in the case, but hopefully, the truth involving the plot to kidnap Whitmer and Trask’s domestic incident will come to light and justice will be served as needed.
