Federal Agency Suffered Massive Security Breach

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Security breaches are nothing new. Several large companies experience them from time to time, although institutions and other parts of the federal government often keep their information well secured to avoid such events. One federal agency put itself at serious risk of experiencing a security breach. Records show the agency responsible for sending out America’s message has a history of lapses in its security.

Michael Pack served as the CEO of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) for seven months between June 2020 and January 2021. Just a week before President Biden took office on January 20, 2021 and fired Pack, the CEO formally submitted a request to the State Department Inspector General’s Office. Pack asked for a thorough investigation of several issues regarding finances and security at the USAGM.

According to Just the News, Pack’s report was full of allegations that 1,500 of the agency’s 4,000 employees had security clearance problems such as insufficient background checks. In the report, the CEO detailed how previous members of senior management failed to follow protocol for a decade at the minimum. Pack asserted that in many instances, these individuals placed US national security at risk.

The new leadership instituted by Biden quickly rehired several of the senior officials in Pack’s report, despite allegations of wiped hard drives, forwarded potentially sensitive information to personal emails, and the use of slush funds. As Pack points out, having security protocols in place isn’t helpful if no one implements them — unless the users are corrupt, and then bypassing security would be the best way to avoid getting caught.
