Kamala Calls For Race-Based Hurricane Relief — FEMA Chief Responds
(AmericanProsperity.com) – As Florida begins its journey to recovery after Hurricane Ian’s decimation throughout much of the state, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke about how the White House would be providing aid. However, Harris noted the federal government would be focusing on providing assistance to low-income communities. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) chief had other ideas.
Deanne Criswell, the director of FEMA, spoke with “Face the Nation” on CBS and asserted that her agency was committed to offering help to all Floridians Hurricane Ian had impacted. Criswell admitted FEMA’s services weren’t always easily accessible to some people, citing certain barriers, but overall the agency offered help to everyone who needed it.

The director’s comments came after Harris claimed the White House would use race and class to prioritize aid to the region. The vice president’s comments also caught the ire of Christina Pushaw, the Rapid Response Director for Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Pushaw asserted the vice president’s claims were untrue and that FEMA’s Individual Assistance was already set up for all the people of Florida to begin applying for help.
This is false. @VP's rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background. The Rapid Response Director also noted that Harris sowed “undue panic” and declared the leader needed to correct what she said.
I completely agree. I have clarified that FEMA assistance isn't being allocated by race in Florida, but the @VP needs to correct what she said as well. A real journalist would simply ask her to clarify what she meant by those comments and why she misrepresented the relief effort. https://t.co/EXjJH2d99d

Hurricane Ian, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm, killed dozens of people, flooded communities, and left millions without power. Florida officials have been doing what they can to provide relief to the families in need.
