GOP Governor Promises a Normal School Year for Students

(AmericanProsperity.com) – As schools went online or imposed extraordinary in-person distancing and masking measures on their students, parents all across the nation were alarmed at what their children were forced to do. Understandably, many turned to homeschooling while others moved to more child-friendly states. In an exciting announcement, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) assured parents that Floridian students could expect a “normal year” in the fall.

On Thursday, July 22, Governor DeSantis gave a news conference about the rumors of a federal mask mandate for public schools next year. DeSantis firmly stood his ground and said that schools will, “be in person” and kids will “learn like normal kids” for students in his state.

Mediaite shared more of DeSantis’ thoughts on Twitter:

DeSantis understands that school is not only a place for kids to learn subjects like math and language arts. It’s also a place where they connect socially with their friends, build personal skills, and enjoy a sense of normalcy and schedule, all of which are critical to a child’s wellbeing.

DeSantis got personal during the conference, highlighting that he has a 3-year-old son that he does not want “muzzled” by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director, Dr. Anthony Fauci. The governor affirmed many people’s belief that such an act is “totally unacceptable.” By taking a stand against a potential federal mandate, DeSantis has protected the next generation of children from government overreach and has given them a chance to be kids again.
