Biden Plots To Erase Student Debt – Will Voters Cave?
(AmericanProsperity.com) – President Biden is looking for ways to completely cancel student loan debt. The topic has been a matter of debate for some time, especially since President Trump put a hold on student loan payments during the pandemic, which Biden has extended until August of this year. Republicans in Congress don’t agree with the president this time, and they’re looking to put an end to his student debt forgiveness crusade.
I introduced a bill today to stop President Biden from using national emergencies, like the pandemic, as a reason to cancel federal student loans or suspend payments in perpetuity.https://t.co/vQ5KUCqI6S

As President Biden seeks a way to forgive federal student loans, Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) has teamed up with Senators Mike Braun (R-IN), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Richard Burr (R-NC) in an effort to prevent that now and in the future. If their bill passes, it would also limit how long a president can put a hold on student loan payments, and anyone making four times as much as the poverty level wouldn’t get a pause.
Senator Thune mentioned how Americans are getting back to work and have been for over two years, asserting it’s time borrowers started repaying their debts. The Republican declared it’s not the responsibility of taxpayers to bear the cost of students not fulfilling their debt obligations.
Senator Braun (R-IN) believes it’s unfair to make Americans without degrees pay for the student loans under the flag of COVID-19 relief. The Republican called it nothing more than a handout to left-wing extremists, which taxpayers would fund.
Of course, this legislation isn’t likely to get through Congress. Even if it did somehow manage to garnish enough Democratic support, President Biden would never sign it. Even so, this move does show that Republicans are going to stand their ground on these hot-button issues.
