(AmericanProsperity.com) – New Jersey’s skies are under siege by mysterious drones, and Republicans like state Senator Jon Bramnick and House Rep. Jeff Van Drew are taking a firm stand.

During an interview on Fox News, Van Drew, himself a member of the House Judiciary Committee, declared, “These drones should be shot down.”

However, it is important to note that shooting down drones is illegal and considered a federal crime, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As unexplained aircraft intrusions keep growing, Bramnick proposes a “limited state of emergency” to ban all drone activities.

The Garden State has become a hotbed of unexplained drone activity, with nearly 50 sightings reported in a single night.

Since mid-November, these unidentified flying objects have been spotted in at least 10 New Jersey counties and parts of New York City.

Of particular concern is the fact that these drones have been able to get near sensitive locations.

The FAA has taken the unprecedented step of temporarily banning drone flights over President-elect Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf course and Picatinny Arsenal, an Army facility in Morris County.

The situation has reached such a fever pitch that Sen. Bramnick is calling for decisive action.

“The State of New Jersey should issue a limited state of emergency banning all drones until the public receives an explanation regarding these multiple sightings,” Bramnick declared.

The FBI’s inability to identify the source or destination of these drones only adds to the mystery and public unease.

Although authorities have assured that there is no immediate threat to public safety, the over 3,000 sightings reported to the FBI suggest a coordinated effort that cannot be ignored.

Adding fuel to the fire, some officials have suggested that the drones might be coming from an Iranian “mothership” off the East Coast.

Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. has also joined the chorus of concerned voices, stating:

“I join thousands of New Jersey residents in deep frustration regarding the growing concerns over drones operating in our skies. The safety and privacy of our residents must be a top priority, and right now, both are being put at risk.”
