(AmericanProsperity.com) – A new warning has been issued from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA, saying that hackers have now been targeting Microsoft Excel sheets and Google Chrome.

Microsoft Excel is being targeted by hackers and they’re taking advantage of a vulnerability that is in the library of Excel files. The library is called Spreadsheet::ParselExcel, and it allows hackers to run malware remotely as well as run different programs on your computer.

This has happened before when Barracuda, which is a security firm, found that Chinese hackers were using Excel sheets to run any program on your computer. Although this was said to be patched up, other open-source libraries could be at risk for the same kind of hacking.

For the Google Chrome bug, hackers are targeting an open-source project–WebRTC. Hackers are using WebRTC to overload your browser and cause it to crash, or it can permit them to do anything they want while using it. It affects all programs that use WebRTC to communicate, not just Google Chrome. Although Google sent out an emergency fix for this last month, there’s still more to consider when it comes to protecting yourself.

One thing that experts tell you to do is to exercise caution when using open-source applications, as people can go in and change the app or the program to make it do whatever it wants.

Make sure to update your apps often as these apps usually come out with updated software to protect against hackers and scammers. Hackers will oftentimes target apps that haven’t been updated or have outdated software to take advantage of.

Remember never to click on any suspicious attachments or links as they can have hidden malware, phishing, or ransomware. Lastly, make sure you’re using antivirus protection. This can help to protect your computer from hackers and those who may try to get into it.

If you’ve found that you’ve been hacked then it’s important to take steps to ensure your information is safe and it doesn’t happen again. First, you need to change all of your passwords. Experts recommend that you change passwords on another device so the hackers are not aware. You should check your accounts often for suspicious activity. Make sure you’re using identity theft protection as well so it can monitor your SSN and other important areas. You also should contact your bank and card companies to let them know so you can freeze your cards or dispute any transactions that are not from you.

It’s essential to protect yourself from hackers as much as you can using protective software and other protective programs. Always be aware of what’s going on in your accounts and stay away from odd links. Experts are bringing attention to hackers as this is something that can affect anyone who uses these programs.
