Homeland Security Lost 40,000 People, Report Finds

(AmericanProsperity.com) – President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has admitted they can’t find over 40,000 illegal aliens who failed to appear in court after receiving a “Notice To Appear” (NTA) between March and December 2021.

The Biden Administration initially created the “Notice To Report” (NTR) system back in March 2021 so that illegal aliens could continue the immigration process by checking in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the assigned date.

According to reports, a “Notice To Appear” is a much lengthier process than required to get a “Notice To Report,” which only takes about 10 minutes to issue. A “Notice to Report” does not put an illegal alien in a removal status, but the “Notice To Appear” can.

Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said ICE serves as the prosecutor during removal proceedings of those who enter the country illegally, and their failure to keep track of these individuals is very alarming. He recently sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) asking for answers.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Troubling Response

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas responded to Sen. Johnson’s letter providing alarming statistics saying over 100,000 illegal aliens were given NTRs. Making matters worse, recent reports indicated that more than 47,000 never showed up as ICE’s 60-day requirement demanded.

Mayorkas added after meeting with US Border Patrol agents last month; he feels the border crisis is worse than it has been in the past 20 years, “if not ever.” He continued to say he knows the Biden Administration’s border policies are unpopular with the US Customs and Border Protection agency. The best thing those border agents should do is find a way to work within that framework.

During a GOP press conference on Wednesday, Sen. Johnson tore into the Biden administration, saying its policies have failed at the nation’s southern border. He added that roughly 1.2 million undocumented immigrants entered the country illegally because the administration changed the rules from migrant “apprehension” to “encounters” tying the hands of agents at the border.
