(AmericanProsperity.com) – House Republicans have issued a report from their investigation into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and blamed the disastrous end of the war on President Joe Biden.
Despite Donald Trump being the president who signed the withdrawal deal from the Taliban, the blame is being put mostly on the Biden administration. The report in question goes into detail about the final months of military and civilian failures that followed the withdrawal deal.
The issue was that the Taliban was able to sweep in and conquer all of the country before the last of the U.S. officials flew out. This chaotic exit plan left many Afghan battle allies, American citizens, women activists, and others at risk of the Taliban.
This report doesn’t exactly break new ground as the litigation has been through several other independent reviews. These investigations have looked at multiple systemic failures that spanned over the last few presidential administrations, and it concluded that Biden and Trump have shared the heaviest blame over what happened.
Texas Republican Rep. and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul led the investigation and said that the review reveals that the Biden administration “had the information and opportunity to take necessary steps to plan for the inevitable collapse of the Afghan government, so we could safely evacuate U.S. personnel, American citizens, green card holders, and our brave Afghan allies.”
In a statement, McCaul said, “At each step of the way, however, the administration picked optics over security.”
Sharon Yang, the White House spokesperson, said that Biden was faced with two options after Trump decided to pull out of Afghanistan. She said that he either had to ramp up or completely end the war against the Taliban.
Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee looked at the months leading up to the decision to remove U.S. troops. They pointed out that Biden and his administration ignored warnings from officials as the Taliban was able to take over key cities faster than U.S. officials had expected.
