How Will Schools Handle COVID-19 As Students Return?

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Many children across the United States are heading back to school this month which has raised some concerns for the public.

The flu, RSV, and now COVID-19 are expected to be in full swing after schools get back into session; but are they ready to handle the possibility of these viruses?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that COVID activities and emergency visits with diagnosed COVID infections are steadily increasing, despite the hospitalizations and deaths related to the virus being historically low.

Many school officials across multiple school districts stated that they do feel prepared to handle any cases of respiratory viruses and that they will try to prevent classroom disruptions related to the illness as much as possible.

Kim Baumann, lead county nurse for Gwinnett County Public Schools, said, “We’re always preparing, and I feel very confident that we’re going to have a great school year, and we’ll get through this respiratory season with no problem.”

In the past, schools were leaning on virtual education to help continue the school year while allowing students to be away from potential viruses. However, this year many schools are trying to stay away from virtual learning to avoid student academic losses.

Arizona State Superintendent of Education, Tom Horne, said “Closing of the schools that occurred last time was an unbelievable disaster. Kids are way behind academically. We’re still experiencing it now, and I think some of them will be affected for the rest of their lives.”

He also continued to say that school closings aren’t exactly beneficial anyway since COVID studies show that it affects older adults with preexisting conditions much more than it affects children.

Doctors are recommending for parents to get themselves and their children vaccinated against these viruses before returning to school to help prevent the spread of illness as much as possible.
