(AmericanProsperity.com) – According to a CBS October 5 report, US President Joe Biden’s dog Commander was officially removed from the White House following different incidents where he bit members of the Secret Service. Despite this decision, the German Shepard hasn’t been rehomed yet.
In a statement sent to PEOPLE, First Lady Jill Biden’s communications director Elizabeth Alexander revealed that Commander is now residing “elsewhere.” She also said that the next steps are currently being “evaluated” and pointed out that the presidential couple deeply cares about the safety of everyone who works to protect them and works at the White House.
Commander’s removal came after an incident in September where the canine bit a Secret Service officer, who had to receive immediate healthcare. According to a CNN report, this incident happened after numerous emails detailed that the Secret Service had serious concerns about Commander, as he was already involved in 10 other biting incidents.
Back in July, Alexander published a statement where she explained that the Secret Service, the Executive Residence staff and the Biden family were working on additional “training” for the German Shepard. In the statement, she noted that the White House complex is usually a stressful environment for dogs and family pets because of its size and the number of persons who live or work there. Alexander also pointed out that the Biden family was planning to establish some designated areas for Commander so he could run and exercise.
The presidential family had another dog named Major. He was adopted in 2018 from the Delaware Human Association but also had to be removed from the White House after numerous biting incidents. While different reports claimed he was being trained to solve this problem, it was eventually decided that he wouldn’t return. At the time, Jill Biden’s then-spokesman Michael LaRosa said that the Biden family decided it would be safer for Major to live in another environment after consulting with veterinarians and dog trainers.
