(AmericanProsperity.com) – Christopher Quaglin is currently jailed in Warsaw, Virginia, for his role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. New York attorney Joseph McBride, who represents Quaglin, made a statement to The Epoch Times on Tuesday saying his client was being “starved” because the prison will not accommodate his dietary needs for celiac disease.
McBride says his client has been moved six times since his arrest last April for assaulting a police officer. He claims none of these facilities provided Quaglin with adequate levels of care.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Zahid Quraishi ordered home detention for Quaglin after his wife posted bond but then granted a prosecution stay on his home detention release until other federal prosecutors could be consulted. So instead of going home, officials sent Qauglin to Essex County Jail in New Jersey to await the decision.

McBride argues that Quaglin’s condition is severe. If not correctly cared for, his autoimmune disease could damage the small intestine if forced to eat gluten found in such foods as rye, barley, and wheat, causing bloating, fatigue, anemia, and diarrhea. He continued to say Quaglin has lost close to 20 pounds since December 21.
Jail Superintendent Ted Hull addressed the accusations saying Quaglin is getting the appropriate care he needs and receiving the diet specific to his dietary requirements and reasonable medical care.
This latest accusation is not the first time a U.S. Capitol riot defendant complained about poor access to medical care in confinement. Top officials at the Department of Corrections in Washington D.C. were held in contempt by a federal judge for violating a January 6 detainee’s civil rights because they impeded access to medical care.
The courts have incarcerated at least 650 people over the January 6 riots thus far. However, many have yet to be arraigned or even charged with a specific crime.
