(AmericanProsperity.com) – The Radical Left continues to call for Americans to defund their local police departments and funnel the money towards community programs in a misguided attempt to fight crime. Cities where this ideology has taken hold have seen rising crime rates, and actor and producer James Wood warns about what will be next if the Democrats aren’t stopped.
On Wednesday, July 7, Wood reacted to the fact that President Joe Biden would be meeting with Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot to talk about the city’s immensely violent Independence Day weekend by tweeting the following:
Criminals will always have guns and will always use them with little regard for the lives of innocents. The only way to end crime is to wage war on gangs in America. As long as Democrats continue to defund the police, America’s streets will run with blood. https://t.co/a7pXE0uxHm

While Wood’s language may seem harsh, the data shows he may be right. So far this year, Chicago has had 2,100 shooting victims, resulting in 350 deaths. The first 6 months of 2021 showed a 12% increase in shootings from the same time frame last year.
Over the July 4th weekend alone, 72 people were shot, resulting in 13 fatalities reported. Those injured included four children, ranging from a 6-year old girl to an 11-year old boy.
Gangs run Chicago’s streets, and it seems attempts by the Left to control crime by defunding the police are going quite poorly, at best. Hopefully, Mayor Lightfoot heeds Woods’ warning that the “streets will run with blood” if she does nothing to stop gangs and crime in their tracks.
