People worldwide recognize the event for its prominent and exclusive guest list, those who are often adorned in incredible and sometimes head-scratching fashions. House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) used her appearance at the party to make a bold political statement, and President Joe Biden quickly backed her up on Twitter.
On Monday, September 13, attendees poured into the $35,000-a-ticket Met event while showing off the most prominent of this season’s fashions. AOC used her moment in the spotlight to wear a white dress made by Aurora James with “Tax the Rich” emblazoned on it in red ink.
Many Americans wondered whether her move to wear the dress at one of the most elitist events of the year sent the wrong message. But, President Joe Biden took to Twitter shortly after her appearance to defend the radical Left’s “Squad” leader:
It’s time the super-wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes.

AOC soon responded to the president, promoting his $3.5-trillion Build Back Better Act that would place additional tax burdens on Americans to fund more government-backed healthcare and childcare. Understandably, many Americans expressed their discontent with AOC’s dress, Biden’s subsequent banter, and their socialism-seeming plan to tax America.
